Public liability
Required by Secret Spa
May cover compensation and legal costs if you accidentally cause an injury to a client or any third party – or damage their property in the course of your work.
Business equipment
To replace your portable equipment
Designed to cover accidental damage, loss and theft of equipment belonging to you or your employees. The maximum amount for any single item is £2,500.
Medical malpractice
Only relevant for therapists
May pay a benefit if you or someone working for your business suffers an accident resulting in loss of sight, hearing, speech or a limb, or death.
Employers' liability
A legal requirement in the UK for most businesses with employees, whether full or part time. Note that this also includes apprentices.
Aesthetic treatment cover
Specialist cover for practitioners carrying out invasive and non-invasive treatments – including injectables, microblading and laser treatments.
Personal accident
May pay a benefit if you or someone working for your business suffers an accident resulting in loss of sight, hearing, speech or a limb, or death.
Cyber
This concerns your liability for processing data and costs associated with a data breach or security failure. For example, breach of client confidentiality or privacy.

The 20% discount is available to any Secret Spa pro taking out a new business policy with Superscript online; it will not be granted in conjunction with any other offer, voucher or discount, excluding unique referral codes from our Refer-A-Friend programme which can be used in conjunction with the Secret Spa discount. The 20% discount applies for 12 months only from the inception date of the initial policy. Subject to eligibility requirements.
FAQs
What should I select as my “business type”?
It's expected that most Secret Spa pros will be sole traders. Occasionally, Secret Spa pros will have set up their own limited company.
You can select from three options. We've listed these and their definitions below:
1. Sole trader
A self-employed individual who chooses to conduct business as an individual and does not have any partners or shareholders.
2. Limited company
An organisation that is set up in order to run your business and is registered with Companies House. The finances used to run the company are separated from your personal finances, additionally the company has its own tax and legal obligations it must fulfill outside of you as an individual.
3. Partnership
A partnership is when two or more individuals enter into business together with the intent to share the profits generated by their work.
What should I select as my “primary business activity”?
This should relate specifically to the services that you provide via Secret Spa. Our quotation process enables you to type in the service you provide. If you're unsure of what to select, please refer to the list below.
- Nail technicians, please type in and select Nail Technicians.
- Meditation, mindfulness, stress/anxiety clinics, yoga or pilates services then please type in and select Complementary Therapies.
- If you provide nutrition services, please type in and select Dieticians and Nutritionists.
- If you provide physiotherapy services, please type in and select Physiotherapists.
- If you provide beauty (including hairdressing and barbering) services, please type in and select Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing or Barber.
What cover limit should I select?
Secret Spa requires that you have a minimum cover limit of £1 million public liabilty insurance.
What should I enter when asked to add each of the premises I operate from?
Unless you have a business premises, you should enter your home address.
What should I enter when asked to add the name of my business?
If you don't personally have a business name or a limited company, you should use your own name.
If you have a limited company, you can use the registered name of this business.
You should not use the name Secret Spa.

If you are a business with an annual turnover under £1m, charity with an annual income under £1m, or trust with net assets under £1m, then you will be entitled to compensation from the FSCS in the unlikely event we cannot meet our obligations.
