Superscript announces new CEO

After over a decade growing the Superscript business, today we announce that our co-founder and CEO Cameron Shearer is stepping down from his role.

Our Chief Commercial Officer, Christopher Barclay, will take up the position of Interim CEO in early May.

Under Cam’s leadership we’ve achieved so much. Since our founding over 10 years ago, we've established ourselves as an innovator and a leader in the insurance industry.

We've secured long-term strategic partnerships, launched market-first products, and achieved key accreditations, including becoming a Lloyd’s of London broker and earning B Corp certification.

With the business built on a strong foundation, a clear strategic vision and continued growth, we remain focused on scaling our impact across the UK and Europe.

While stepping away is never easy, this feels like the right moment—for both me and the business. I’ve been extremely grateful to work alongside Chris and Ben who will continue to drive Superscript forward. I know the company is in great hands, and I have no doubt that the team will take it to even greater heights in the years to come.

Our mission remains as bold as ever

Christopher Barclay, will take up the position of Interim CEO in early May.

With a strong track record in commercial strategy, underwriting partnerships, and digital transformation Chris brings extensive experience across UK and international insurance markets. Chris' previous experience includes holding the role of Managing Director of Affinity and Partnerships at Marsh.

Since Chris joined Superscript 18 months ago as Chief Commercial Officer, the business has grown considerably.

We achieved 50% year-on-year expansion and surpassed our GWP target by 140%, while also being recognised for our leadership in schemes, winning Gold for Schemes Broker of the Year at the 2024 Insurance Times Awards.

When I joined Superscript, I was very impressed by the company’s incredible talent, its innovative approach and the real opportunity it presents for the market.

Over the last 18 months, working alongside Cam and Ben, I have seen firsthand the incredible job they have done in building a forward-thinking, established business that’s genuinely disrupting the commercial insurance space. I am excited for Cam as he embarks on his next chapter.

In the meantime, Superscript’s mission remains as bold as ever, to become a global leader in SME insurance and a trusted advisor for our Specialist clients, ensuring businesses have the right cover at every stage of their journey. That’s our focus as we move into this next phase of growth.

Cam will remain at Superscript until early May, supporting Chris as he takes on his new role as our Interim CEO.
